Masks to be required at Miami

Many Miami faculty, staff and students are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. President Crawford has announced that masks will be required indoors as of August 9. This will significantly increase the safety of our community. As a community leader, it is important that Miami University models care for our community and science-based decision-making. We congratulate leadership on doing the right thing in a difficult political climate.

Also, residential students will need to be vaccinated or be tested at move-in. Ideally, vaccination would be required (with any appropriate exceptions) for all workers and students to ensure the virus does not find a dangerous foothold here and spark community spread. Failing that, weekly testing is another option that many schools are using to maintain safety and incentivize vaccination. We hope Miami will take further action along these lines.

Miami University's President Crawford emails faculty with news of a face covering requirement as of August 9 and, for residential students, either proof of vaccination or testing during move-in.
