Faculty Bargaining Update for 6/15/26
Did you see FAM’s mobile billboard driving around Oxford over Alumni weekend? We want Miami alumni to join us in demanding a Fair Contract Now for faculty and librarians.
One of our mobile billboard messages read “Do You Want Your Professor to Be Replaced by AI? We don’t! The Future Is Human.” Read our new op-ed in the Miami Student, “College students should be taught by human professors, not AI,” and share it with your networks so they can join our letter writing campaign!
Today at the faculty bargaining table, FAM and management traded two package proposals:
- Management Rights; Separability; Appointment and Promotion of Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty; and Appointment, Renewal, and Promotion of TCPL Faculty
- Compensation, Benefits, Leaves, Professional Development Leaves, and Duration
In these packages, we are trying to work out the financial and non-financial articles as a block while retaining the right to make separate changes to individual articles if management rejects the package as a whole. FAM continues to fight for strong raises for all faculty (4% annually, plus a $3,500 increase to base salary) that will bring us closer to where we should be in relation to cost of living and inflation — especially in relation to administrators, who have been making bank. We are also continuing to fight to keep your benefits costs in check, in particular prohibiting management from making unilateral sweeping changes to your health care costs.
In addition to the packages listed above, FAM also proposed a new version of our Immigration Access and Information Sharing MOU, which simply asks management to commit to current practice around communicating with faculty about interactions with federal agents, including ICE. Despite this modest request, management rejected this MOU for a third time, stating at the table that they have already fulfilled their obligations. In the absence of management leadership on ICE, FAM will keep our members up to date and will continue to advocate for, protect, and stand with our international students and colleagues.
Join us at tomorrow’s General Membership Meeting (open to members only) to hear more details and the inside scoop on bargaining, grievances, and our summer pay ULP that we can’t share here. Ice cream and yard signs on us for in-person attendees! 🍨🪧
