FAM’s negotiating team passed across the table a proposal, a counter-proposal, and a memorandum of understanding today.
First, FAM’s negotiating team offered a counter to the management proposal on separability, which Management then countered again before the end of the session. This article provides guidance on what needs to happen when state law changes something in the contract, such as what SB 83 would do.
In addition, FAM presented a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) requesting service credit for FAM work, much like how faculty get credit for working with campus or outside organizations.
Finally, FAM proposed a new article that codifies the eligibility for Tenure and Promotion for tenure track and tenured professors in an enforceable collective bargaining agreement. This article provides the foundation of what will be a continued package to both preserve and improve the criteria, directives, and evaluation involved in the tenure process.
Management’s negotiating team also offered a counter to the Appointment, Renewal and Promotion of TCPL proposal that FAM had presented previously.
Management’s team also clarified that the University was “not inclined” to support the request that faculty members be added to the Board of Trustees. They think that faculty would provide no valuable input to the Board, as administrators provide all the academic expertise they need.
FAM is excited to introduce our new addition to the Negotiation Team: Trevor Wilson! Wilson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics whose research interests include mathematical logic and set theory. He has been an active member of FAM’s Bargaining Council since June 2023 and currently serves as a FAM liaison to his department. Welcome to the team!!
