Today at FAM-L bargaining, we exchanged several important counters on Grievance and Arbitration, Librarian Ranks, Parking, and Vacation and Holidays. Regarding vacay, we had a lively exchange with management about librarians being forced to take vacation days on days when the university is closed — a practice that we would like to change for our members.
The benefits of unionization become clearer everyday, as we work out agreements and proposals to protect our rights in a process with real benefits and enforcement provisions. For example, today we had extensive, constructive conversations about artificial intelligence. We have a deadline of June 5th to file a charge of Unfair Labor Practice if we have to, but we’ve been working together to try to come to an agreement. Those talks are ongoing.
Join us at FAM-T bargaining next Wednesday, June 5th, at Demske Staff Development Center in Oxford (or on Zoom). And watch your email for upcoming post-bargaining happy hours this summer! Drink and debrief with FAM!
Finally, come out for Hamilton Pride tomorrow, June 1st! Colleagues are rounding up any and all faculty who want to march. If you know anyone who may be interested, the fun gets rolling at 9:30am at Marcum Square, the march itself starts at 11, and there is a booth for Miami all day.
