FAM-T Bargaining, Day 22

FAM held fast to our Compensation proposal today at FAM-T bargaining. In response to management’s unacceptable 1.4% average annual salary increment, we held to our numbers (a robust 7% average annual salary increment, with a total raise over three years of the contract would be 26.5%) while compromising with some of management’s language, timelines, and pay schedules. We are committed to ensuring that our members get the increases they deserve. If you haven’t already, use our pay calculators to find out how FAM’s and management’s pay raises would affect you!

We are standing firm because Miami faculty have some of the lowest salaries among our peer institutions, we have been consistently underpaid for years, and the cost of living has increased so much in recent years. Besides, Miami’s increase on spending for upper administration since 2019 is 30.9%. Don’t faculty deserve more than 1.4%? Visit our FAM Index for more FAM facts about compensation at Miami.

We also passed across a counter protecting TCPL faculty members’ job security today, pointing out that current policy on appointment, renewal, and promotion of TCPL faculty — which is largely what our proposal enshrines — was won through years of shared governance, making Miami an attractive place to work for the nearly 25% of Miami faculty who are TCPL. And we continued productive discussion around reinstating bargaining unit members to the AI Task Force. To understand more, read the letter we presented at the table

Come out to FAM-L bargaining on July 18 and July 31 (locations TBA)! We’ll have another post-bargaining happy hour (food/drinks on us), along with our summer book club, to follow on the 31st! It’s all part of our Hot FAM Summer! ☀️🔥
