FAM-L Bargaining, Day 20

Today at FAM-L bargaining, we signed a tentative agreement (TA) on Appointment Notices. The agreed upon article will help librarians better understand the conditions and expectations for their initial appointment as a librarian to the University.

We also passed counters focused on protecting and clarifying your job security and benefits, including Grievance & Arbitration and Leaves & Other Time Off Work. Our counters:

  • Ensure a fair process and expeditious timeline for our members in settling issues that arise when the contract is broken;
  • Codify leaves offered by the University, including FMLA, Military Duty, and Jury Duty (including leave with pay for Jury Duty);
  • Hold to the creation of a separate bereavement leave for members; you shouldn’t have to use a third of your sick leave following the death of a loved one.

Management passed several substantive counters, showing that our firm stance at the table last time worked. In addition to Appointment Notices, they countered on Probationary Period, Sick Leave, Vacation, Committee Procedures, and Professional Improvement Leaves. Our team has already started preparing counters on these proposals for future negotiation sessions.

You can read all proposals in full at our proposal tracker! And review FAM FAQs here.

Want to help make Management continue to make strides in coming closer to our position? Participate in upcoming actions, including attending the Bishop Woods Bash on August 29, from 4-5:30 wearing RED. As always, come out to FAM-T bargaining on September 12 & September 17! (We are still working on securing September and October bargaining dates for FAM-L.) Contact your department liaison for more details or email info@famiami.org!
