Movement at the table today 💪🏽
A full and robust session today, with lots of forward movement. We came to a Tentative Agreement (TA) on Librarian Ranks, which provides clarity on each librarian rank. FAM-Librarians and Miami management also quickly shared multiple versions of other articles, including a combined package on Academic Freedom and Discipline and Discharge. These proposals are crucial because they protect our ability to carry out our professional duties effectively. We are continuing to push management to discuss Academic Freedom with us, and we are looking to hold management to using the same disciplinary processes for faculty and librarians.
FAM also passed across important counters focusing on various types of leaves — Professional Improvement Leaves, Sick Leave, and Vacation Leave. We refuse to limit our members in when they can take their professional improvement leave, directly countering management’s insistence in their past counter that members only take a leave during the winter or summer terms.
Management countered on Personnel Committee, Credit-Bearing Courses, and Scope of Librarian Duties. We are making progress moving closer to management’s language, especially in Committee Procedures. We still differ on Credit-Bearing Courses and Scope of Librarian Duties, which our team will closely examine to identify areas of movement in the meantime.

Join us Friday for the Rally for Raises! It’s time to choose your future and show management you won’t accept 1.25% raises. We gather at noon at the Seal behind Roudebush — RSVP here!
