Huge Win on Vacation Pay!
Thanks to FAM, all Miami staff will now be paid during holiday closings instead of having to take mandatory vacation days. FAM and Miami management today signed a landmark agreement ensuring fair pay for mandatory closing days during Winter Break.
Since contract negotiations began, FAM has insisted the university reverse its unfair office closing policy where librarians and university staff were forced to use their vacation days even when university offices and facilities were closed for Winter Break. Happily, after intense lobbying during negotiations, our insistence has resulted in the administration seeing reason and awarding the full winter break to all university staff! (See these shared additional details).
This is a huge win for collective action and shows how FAM and strong union presence aids everyone in the whole Miami community. Spread the word, this is a great victory!
In addition, our solidarity and action has led management to make more progress, leading to our signing four, count ‘em, four Tentative Agreements:
- Vacation pay ensures fair payment.
- Annual Evaluations protects our rights to fair treatment.
- Intellectual Property protects our copyright and other rights.
- Credit Bearing courses article clarifies policy in an area that has previously been opaque.
Solidarity and collective action is getting us stronger provisions in the contract, as we close out these negotiations we will continue to demonstrate our commitment to fair pay, respectful treatment, and shared governance, and we will gain the great contract we have earned.
We need YOU to help us continue the momentum at the table. Come out to the Marcum Center for the Board of Trustees meeting at 8:45 am this Friday, December 13. [add qr code etc] Afterwards, come to Demske Staff Development Center for another action packed day at the FAM-L negotiation table.
