Today marks nearly 500 days of bargaining
Once again, we waited all morning for management to finish their work before finally joining us at the table at almost noon. Today is our 497th day of bargaining, and management continues to stall, delay, and obstruct progress to our first contract.
Once we did get to the table, we saw some progress from management on Promotion and Continuing Contract, Association Rights, and Management Rights. For our part, we presented a counter on Furloughs and Financial Exigency. This proposal protects our bargaining unit librarians should the University enter a period of time of financial distress.
We did sign TAs today on Leaves and Other Time Off Work and Professional Development Leaves — so the day wasn’t completely devoid of progress! Too bad management couldn’t be reasonable and engage with our proposal on Academic Freedom, since reasonable requires reason. (Look for our new Librarian Academic Freedom video series on our socials!)
How can you help us to help management see reason? Come out to the following actions to keep the pressure on!
- Come out to FAM-T bargaining next Tuesday, January 14 at Wilks Conference Center in Hamilton.
- Join our first-day-of-spring-semester “Don’t Freeze Us Out” picket! January 27, 12:30-1:30 outside Shriver Center! ❄️
- Save the Date for our Make It Miami 🩷 action, Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025
