Your FAM Negotiating Team working hard at the table.

FAM-L and FAM-T Bargaining, Days 1 and 3

This week might be spring break, but it’s not a break for your FAM Negotiating Team! The past two days of negotiations were a double header, marking both the start of FAM-L negotiations and a continuation of FAM-T negotiations.

Librarians started off with a bang by presenting changes to 17 articles—including Compensation and Professional Development. We’re fighting for raises totalling 12% plus $6k added to base salary over three years; management thinks librarians deserve just 3% total over three years. Your FAM Negotiating Team is also fighting alongside you by introducing 5 new articles: Financial Exigency and Retrenchment, Academic Freedom, Artificial Intelligence, Shared Governance, and Evaluation of Supervisors

On the faculty side, FAM exchanged proposals with management on Appointments, Non-discrimination and Anti-harassment, and Dues Deduction. We also rejected numerous proposals from management (including on Appointment and Promotion of TT/T Faculty; Appointment, Renewal, and Promotion of TCPL Faculty; Faculty Evaluations; and Financial Exigency and Academic Reorganization) that try to limit our ability to file grievances when they violate the contract. We will not stand for this limitation of our union power — management doesn’t get to decide what is grievable and what isn’t (that’s for arbitrators and courts to decide). We have already won numerous grievances on behalf of our members, a testament to our outstanding Grievance Committee. FAM is committed to enforcing our contract, holding management accountable, and — most importantly — protecting our librarian and faculty colleagues.

If you want to help ensure we can fight these attacks on our rights and win strong raises for librarians and faculty, take action now! Here’s how you can help:

  • Come to our next bargaining sessions:
    • FAM-T (faculty):
    • FAM-L (librarians): April 10, 15, 22, and 29 (Demske 110)
  • Join walkarounds to talk to your colleagues about why this contract matters!
  • Join FAM at your local No Kings protest this Saturday, March 28:
    • No Kings Cincinnati: 1:00 – 2:50pm; 801 Plum St
    • No Kings Oxford: 12:00 – 2:00pm; Uptown Park
  • Save the date for the upcoming First Fridays with the Ohio Student Association (OSA): April 3 and May 1! Students + FAM are taking action the first Friday of every month leading up to mass student actions around the state and nation on May 1st. Let’s demand an education system that works for us and a fair contract now for librarians and faculty!

Note: we are still getting our online proposal tracker ready — stay tuned!

When we fight, we win. Write info@famiami.org to join FAM or to get involved!
