This Wednesday and Thursday marked the beginning of negotiations of FAM-T’s second-ever contract!
FAM is fighting with you for fair pay, benefits, job security, and shared governance. We presented 9 proposals and 4 counter-proposals in these first two days, including:
- Compensation
- Benefits
- Leaves
- Professional Development Leaves and Appointments
- Appointment and Promotion of TT/T Faculty
- Shared Governance
- Artificial Intelligence
Additionally, we presented No Strike / No Lockout; Association Rights; Labor Management Meetings; Non-discrimination and Anti-harassment; and Appointments.
Management presented 8 articles over the two days, including Compensation; Performance Improvement Plans; Financial Exigency & Academic Reorganization; Appointment, Renewal, and Promotion of TCPL Faculty; Appointment and Promotion of Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty; and Faculty Evaluations.
It’s clear to us that FAM and management have starkly contrasting views of the future of Miami University. FAM is fighting for raises totalling 12% plus $6k added to base salary over three years; management thinks you deserve just 3% total over three years. FAM is fighting for job security, shared governance, and protections for faculty around artificial intelligence, while management is going after our rights, including our right to enforce key contractual protections. FAM presented proposals that actually prioritize Miami faculty needs; management is fighting a war on their own faculty. FAM is protecting higher education and Miami’s central educational mission; management is joining state and national attacks on higher education while funding a $281 million dollar basketball arena and paying numerous outside consultants and law firms instead of their own faculty.
Faculty and librarians are the heart of Miami University. We are the ones who have the greatest impact on student learning, wellbeing, and futures. We deserve working conditions that help us help our students.
We need YOU to help us win this contract. Our power is not at the table but how organized we are outside it. Here’s how you can help:
- Come to our next bargaining sessions on March 23 and 24!
- Join walkarounds to talk to your colleagues about why this contract matters!
- Come out to your local No Kings protest on March 28:
- No Kings Cincinnati: 1:00 – 2:50pm; 801 Plum St, Cincinnati, OH 45202, USA
- No Kings Oxford: 12:00 – 2:00pm; Uptown Park
- Save the date for the upcoming First Fridays with the Ohio Student Association (OSA): April 3 and May 1! Students + FAM are taking action the first Friday of every month leading up to a mass student strike on May 1, 2026 to demand an education system that works for us and a fair contract now for librarians and faculty!
We don’t quite have our website tracker prepared yet, but be on the lookout soon for links to all presented articles!
When we fight, we win. Write info@famiami.org to join or to get involved!
