Today at faculty bargaining, FAM and management exchanged two package proposals with several important articles each:
- FAM package: Compensation; Benefits; Leaves; Professional Development Leaves; and Duration
- Management package: Management Rights; Separability; Appointment and Promotion of Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty; and Appointment, Renewal, and Promotion of TCPL Faculty (a response to our package proposal from Monday’s session)
We aligned more closely with management’s structure on Compensation, while continuing to demand raises that would for most members amount to a 15+% pay increase over 3 years, including a one-time $5k increase to base salary in addition to the annual percentage raises:
- $5,000 increase to base salary upon ratification
- 4% increase effective August 2026
- 4% increase effective August 2027
- 4% increase effective August 2028.
We also held to our proposed strict limitations on the rate of health insurance premium increases. For their part, on the non-economic package, management made little movement in response to our concerns about possible Board overreach relative to SB 1, mostly just shuffling some words around. Management is also still proposing limitations on our right to enforce various contract provisions, which is not acceptable.
Did you know that U.S. employers spend more than $1.5 billion annually on anti-union law firms and consultants? Union busting is big business — and it doesn’t benefit you. Miami University spent more than $1.5 million on outside legal counsel in our first contract campaign, and they continue to pay two outside law firms millions to fight fair pay and benefits for you and your colleagues. Combined with their $281+ million basketball arena, the university is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to keep you from earning enough for the current cost of living. By contrast, we believe that a public institution of higher education should spend its money on the academic mission, including fairly paying faculty and librarians.
Speaking of paying faculty: today, we issued a demand to bargain over management’s unilateral changes to the 2025-2026 summer pay schedule, working to get our members paid in full as soon as possible. If management does not respond promptly, we will file an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the state of Ohio to force their hand.
We need your support as we ramp up the pressure on management!
