Boone is a faculty member in the Biology department and studies human-wildlife conflicts using amphibian communities.  She joined the faculty at Miami in 2004 after completing a B.S. & B.A. in Biology and English at Furman University in SC, a Ph.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a postdoc at the US Geological Survey. After talking with faculty across campus, it became clear that faculty needed a legally binding contract and she became a strong advocate for unionization at our institution.

Karen Zaino

I am a proud member of FAM and a current liaison for members from the Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry in the College of Education, Health and Society. I arrived at Miami as a Visiting Instructor, and have served as an Assistant Teaching Professor (TCPL) for the last two years. I became involved in FAM’s organizing efforts while visiting, and for the entirety of my time as full-time faculty, I have acted as a liaison for members. Prior to my time at Miami, I was an active member of the Professional Staff Congress at the CUNY Graduate Center in NYC. Moreover, as a high school teacher in Kentucky during the 2017-18 school year, I participated in “Red for Ed” actions for public education. In short, I am a longtime supporter of education-related labor efforts and am eager to continue my work with FAM!
